Mohan Biography

Mohan is one of the established romantic heroes of Tamil movies during 1980’s. He is a film producer also. He entered film field during middle 1970’s and became a sweet romantic hero during 1980’s. He is also known for his comic as well as a hardcore romantic villain. During the decade of 1980, he acted in 82 films of which 63 became hits. He has the record of 26 silver jubilee hits in his career including – Mauna Raagam, Kilinjalgal, Payanangal Mudivathillai, Gopurangal Saivathillai, Manaivi Solle Mandiram and Ilamai Kaalangal. Mauna Raagam is one among his classic performances which happened to be his last blockbuster too. This movie, directed by Mani Ratnam won the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Tamil for the year 1986. For the movie - Payanangal Mudivathillai, he received Filmfare best actor award in the year 1982. Mohan is also known by the names, Kokila Mohan, Mike Mohan and Silver Jubilee Star.

Mohan was born on 10 May 1956. He was born and brought up in Bangalore. Though he is fluent in Tamil, his earliest films were dubbed by S. N. Surendar. He dubbed for the first time for Paasa Paravaigal. From late 1970’s Mohan hysteria started and he ruled the industry till early 1990’s. Mohan-SPB-Ilaiyaraaja also formed a successful musical team. His debut movie was Kokila in 1977 directed by Balu Mahendra, where he worked aside Kamal Hassan. He has been paired with all leading actresses of the time including Suhasini, Revathi, Nalini, Nadiya, Jeyashree, Poornima, Radha, Amala, Radhika, Kushboo, Ambika, Lizy and Archana. His movies both in positive and negative shades were well appreciated.

His noted movies include - Nenjathai Killadhey, Kilinjalgal, Payanangal Mudivathillai, Gopurangal Saivathillai, Naan Paadum Paadal, Ilamai Kaalangal, Manaivi Solley Manthiram, Saranaalayam, Vidhi, Unnai Naan Sandhithen, Osai, Vengayin Mainthan, Nooravadhu Naal, Udhaya Geetham, Idaya Kovil, Thendrale Ennai Thodu, Pillai Nila, Kunguma Chimizh, Mella Thirandhathu Kadhavu, Uyire Unakkaaga, Mouna Ragam, December Pookkal, Rettai Vaal Kuruvi, Theerthakaraiyinile, Sahadevan Mahadevan and Suttapalam. However, the charisma of Mohan faded with early 1990’s with the rise of new romantic heroes though he made a few attempts by producing his own films.
