Mohammed Irfan Biography

Mohammed Irfan is an Indian playback singer associated with Bollywood. Apart from Hindi songs he has also rendered his voice to several Indian songs belonging to Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu and Odia. Some of his popular Bollywood tracks are – Tu hi Tu of Kick, Banjara of Ek Villain, "Phir Mohabbat" of Murder 2 , "Muskurane" of Citylights, and "Behene De" of Raavan. Like many singers of present generation, his first big break was given by none other than A. R. Rahman, known for promoting young talents. Familiar to television audience as a reality show contestant, he is also a winner of the title of Jo Jeeta Wohi Super Star 2.

 

Irfan was born on 1 July 1984 in Hyderabad of present day Telangana State. His singing talent was identified by his guru, Ramachari who trained him in Carnatic music. He participated in the first season of Amul STAR Voice of India and gained popularity as a singer, though was not able to reach finals. He also participated in Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. His name was recommended to A. R. Rahman by the famous singer S. P. Balasubrahmanyam while seeing him performing in a music concert in Hyderabad.

 

A. R. Rahman gave him the first break through the movie Raavan in 2010, and asked him to give background vocals for the song "Behene De" alongside Karthik. The song went on to become a chartbuster. He recorded two songs the same year - "Salaam Zindagi" and "Rehmat Zara" for the movie Lamhaa. In June 2012 Irfan won the title of Jo Jeeta Wohi Super Star 2, beating the Indian Idol winner – Sreeram. Later he sang many chartbusters that included Banjaran of Ek Villain and "Phir Mohabbat" of Murder 2. "Jab Tum Chaho" of Prem Ratan Dhan Payo is his latest hit.
