Mohammad Mohsin Biography

Mohammad Mohsin was a leading film actor belonging to Odia film industry. He has also produced and directed many hit films, and had a fan following crowd in the 1980s. He began his career in the second half of 1970s, and was fully active in the 1980s and1990s playing two different roles of actor and director, and delivered numerous hits during this period. Phoola Chandana (1982), Danda Balunga (1980), Jaga Hatare Pagha (1985), Sahari Bagha (1985), Laxman Rekha (1996), and Santana (1998) are his most memorable films. He passed away in 2003 aged only 50, leaving behind a legacy.

Mohammad Mohsin was born on 14 September 1942 in Cuttack, Odisha. As an actor he began with Bollywood films, playing character roles before moving to Odia language movies, his mother tongue. He was first seen in 1979 Hindi language movie Nayya, directed by Prashanta Nanda. He played the character role of Karim, a boat maker in this very popular Rajashree production starring Prashanta Nanda and Zarina Wahab in lead roles. He continued with Bollywood films for a few more films, and did a few Odia films. Yet it was not worthy and later he completely switched over to Odia films. He gained immense popularity and recognition as an actor and director in Odia film industry and was a hit maker.

In Odia films too, he started with character roles in the late 1970s. Bagha in Hisab Nikas, Raka in Maa-o-Mamata, school teacher in Balidan are some of his early character roles in Odia films. He made an impressive debut as a director in the year 1982 through the film, Phula Chandana and bagged Odisha State Film Awards for Best Director. Since then he was fully active in the industry and remained a hit maker till his death.
