Misa Bharti Biography

Misa Bharti is a prominent lady politician associated with Indian politics. She belongs to a very famous political family of Bihar. She is the daughter of well-known politician and former cabinet minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi. Born into a strong political family, her siblings too are associated with politics. Her siblings - Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav, and brother-in-law Tej Pratap Singh Yadav too are prominent names in state and national level politics. Her mother Rabri Devi has remained as Bihar chief minister, while her father, Lalu Prasad Yadav is known for his state & national level politics and linked with a few scams. Misa is currently a member of Rajya Sabha.

Misa Bharti hails from the political Yadav family of Bihar, born to famous politicians - Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi. She is the eldest daughter of the couple. Misa is named after the Emergency-era Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) under which her father was jailed. Most of her family members are involved in active politics, and remains one of the most influential political families of Indian politics. Misa completed her MBBS as university topper in 1999. Her mother served as CM of Bihar then. Though she holds an MBBS degree, she never took it as a profession, and has never practised. Later she joined active politics.

In 2014 she unsuccessfully contested Lok Sabha elections from Patliputra and had lost to Ram Kripal Yadav of BJP. In 2016 she got elected to Rajya Sabha. In 2017, the Income Tax attached Benami properties belonging to Misa Bharti and her family worth over 175 crore Indian rupees. Misa reportedly lied about giving a speech at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. She allegedly went up to the podium and got herself photographed.
