Mina Swaminathan Biography 
Mina Swaminathan is an educationist and a leading name in the field of pre-school education. She is the wife to great Indian scientist M. S. Swaminathan, known for his research work in agricultural sector and the man behind India’s Green Revolution. Among their three kids, Soumya Swaminathan is a prominent name in the field of Indian medicine, pediatrics and research, known for her significant contributions and research works in Tuberculosis. Soumya currently serves as Deputy Director General of Programmes at World Health Organization. Mina Swaminathan earned popularity for her own developed methods using drama in education and language learning, both inside and outside the classroom.
She was born in Delhi on March 29, 1933. After completing graduation in Delhi, she moved to Cambridge for her future studies where she met Swaminathan for the first time in 1951. Swaminathan too was studying in Cambridge that time, and they got married. The couple has three daughters. Soumya Swaminathan is a pediatrician and scientist, while the rest two are into teaching field, following their mother’s footsteps. Mina was a recipient of Homi Bhabha Fellowship during 1973-1975.
Mina’s report to the Advisory Board of Education later formed the basis of the scheme later known as Integrated Child Development Services. She did this work while she served as the Chairperson of the Study Group on the Development of the pre-school child. She was a Consultant to UNESCO on Early Childhood Care and Education, as well as to UNICEF. She also authored several books on drama and child development. Many of her published books became manuals in the field of pre-school education and day care. She also published many of her works through publications and columns. She is currently settled in Chennai along with her husband.
