Milind Gunaji Biography

Milind Gunaji is an actor of Indian screen most known for negative roles. He works for both Marathi and Hindi movies. He is a noted writer as well. His debut movie was Papeeha in 1993 and till now, he has appeared in 60 films. He is the host of the Zee Marathi channel travel show Bhatkanti. He has also served as the Government of Maharashtra's brand ambassador for forest and wildlife. He has also appeared in South Indian movies – Aalavandhan (Tamil) and Krishnam Vande Jagadgurum (Telugu). He has worked in Marathi movie – Sarkarnama and English movie Singularity. Among the 60 characters he worked till now, Virasat, Devdas, Fareb, Dev and Phir hera pheri are his most memorable performances.

Gunaji’s film career started with Papeeha in the year 1993. Yet it was through the movie Fareb in 1996, he became popular. He played negative role of inspector Indrajeet Saxena in this movie and for his wonderful performance, he won Filmfare nomination for negative role also. This movie was one among the biggest hits of 1996, starring Suman Ranganathan in the leading role.

In the career spanning to 20 years, he has worked in numerous successful movies of which a few need special mention – Virasat, Zor, Salma pe dil aa gaya, LOC Kargil, Phir here pheri, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hain, Godmother, Mulaquat, Black and White, Yeh mera India, Droh Kaal, Aan: Men at Work, Khatta meetta, Om Allah, Asambhav, dev, Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa, To the London Calling, Ek Shodh, Taj Mahal: An Eternal Love Story, Come December and Jigyaasa.   

Apart from a successful actor, he also writes columns in a weekly column for the Marathi paper Lokprabha. He is a travel writer. In 1998 he published a book, Majhi Mulukhgiri, a compilation of his own written columns of Lokprabha newspaper.  

Among his movies, first notable performance was Fareb where he beautifully played the role of an inspector who is attracted to a married lady. Suman Ranganathan played that role. In the movie Devdas, he played the role of Aiswarya Rai’s husband’s son (from first marriage) who has a bad eye on her. In Virasat, he played the main villain role.
