Mikey Mccleary Biography

Mikey McCleary is a music composer, background scorer, performer and lyricist associated with Bollywood. McCleary also known as Mikey McCleary is of New Zealand origin, though he lives in Mumbai since 2007. He was born in Chennai. Apart from doing sound tracks for several jingles for ad field, he has also done singles and background score for many Bollywood movies like - Margarita with a straw, Shaitan, Shanghai, David, Bombay Velvet, Nautanki Saala, Shaadi Ke Side Effects, Shaandaar etc. This musician is also known for his re-interpretations of old Bollywood songs under the stage name of The Bartender. In 2015 he won the Best Composer Award for the Film Margarita with a straw at the Asian Film Awards.

 

He was born in Chennai on 8 January 1969. He is of New Zealand origin. He spent in London for 15 years before he shifted to Mumbai in 2006. He studied music from Wellington Conservatorium of Music and Victoria University of Wellington, and later worked at the Trident Studios in London as a music producer. His association with Indian music started with the music album Sunoh for ace singer-composer Lucky Ali. With its success he associated with Lucky Ali for a few more works and later worked with A. R. Rahman. Very soon he moved to ad world where he created sound and music for several TV ads like Vodafone, Coca-Cola, Sony, Cadbury’s etc.

 

He released his debut English album titled - TV Dinners, which includes his ad jingles and also featured singers like Anushka Manchanda and Shalmali Kholgade. Classic Bollywood: Shaken not Stirred (2011), B Seventy (2013) and Classic Bollywood with a Twist (2014) are his remixed Bollywood albums. As a background scorer, Dibakar Banerjee's 2012 Shanghai is his best work. Neend Na Mujhko Aaye and Eena Meena Deeka from Shaandaar, Fifi from Bombay Velvet, Mast Kalandar from David, Khoya Khoya Chand and Hawa Hawai from Shaitan and Dhak Dhak from Nautanki Saala are some of his chartbuster Bollywood songs as a music composer. His wife Diksha Basu is an actor and writer.
