Meghanathan Biography

Meghanathan is a noted character artist associated with Malayalam cinema, known for playing negative and henchman roles. He has also played a few henchman roles in a funny manner. Meghanathan is the son of the legendary actor of Malayalam screen, Balan. K. Nair, the most powerful villain Malayalam cinema has ever witnessed. Though Meghanathan has not excelled as his father through his roles, he has definitely made a mark on silver screen. ‘Chenkol’ in 1993, Chandranudikkunna Dikkil’ in 1999, ‘Vaasanthiyum Lakshmiyum Pinne Njaanum’ in 1999, ‘Vellithira’ in 2003 and ‘Nerariyan CBI’ in 2005 are his noted appearances.

Meghanathan was born in the capital city of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram to Balan K. Nair and Sarada Nair. He was born as the second among 5 children to his parents. His childhood days were mostly spent in Chennai as film shootings were mostly done there. His father Balan K Nair was a busy star then. He completed schooling from Asan Memorial Association, Chennai. He had an inclination towards automobiles and hence moved to Coimbatore to pursue Automobile Engineering. Though he started his career in the same profession, his passion to movies brought him to film world. He decided to follow his father’s steps. He did a diploma course in acting prior to his entry in films.

Meghanathan reached silver screen through the Malayalam film, Astram. The movie was released in 1983. Yet it took a long time for Meghanathan to become a popular actor of Mollywood. He excelled in negative roles in the early 1990s, and his role in ‘Chenkol’ starring Mohanlal needs special mention. Though he excelled in his roles, he remained one among the under estimated artists of Malayalam film industry. Yet he has done around 75 roles in his film journey. Some of his latest films are Paavada, Action hero Baiju, Kohinoor, Picket 43 etc. He is settled with his wife Parvathy and his daughter at Shoranur, Palakkad.
