Meera Jasmine is an Indian actress and acted in films of Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. She got National Film Award for Best Actress in the year 2004 and received Kerala State Film Award and Tamil Nadu State Film Award two times. She received Kalaimamani Award from Government of Tamil Nadu.

 

She was born on 15th February 1982 Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala state. Her parents are Joseph and Aleyamma. She studied at Bala Vihar School and Marthoma Residential School at Thiruvalla. She wrote her Higher Secondary examination in March 2000. She studied B. Sc. in Zoology at Assumption College at Changanessery and after three months of her college life, she was picked up by the director Blessy and appeared in the film Soothradharan.

 

After her debut film Soothradharan, she acted in the films Gramaphone and Swapnakkoodu. This was a huge box office hit. She got her first Filmfare Award for the film Kasthooriman. She acted in the T. V. Chandran’s film Padam Onnu Oru Vilapam. She got the State Award and National award and many other awards for this film. She acted in the movie Perumazhakkalam and Achuvinte Amma. She paired with Mohanlal in the film Rasathanthram.

 

She entered Tamil film industry through the film Run and Bala and won the Filmfare Best Female debut actress award for the film Run. She worked with Mani Ratnam in the film Aayutha Ezhuthu and SS Stanley in the film Mercury Pookkal. She acted in 15 Tamil films.

 

She acted in the Telugu films with Ammayi Bagundi and Gudumba Shankar. She entered Kannada film industry and acted in the film Maurya. Her film in Kannada Arrasu was a hit film. Her other Kannada films include Devaru Kotta Thangi and Ijjodu. Her biggest hit in Telugu was Bhadra and her other Telugu films are Raraju, Maharadhi, Yamagola Malli Modalayindi, Gorintaku and Maa Ayana Chanti Pilladu.

 

She went inside the Raja Rajeshwara Temple at Talimparamba in Kerala where non-Hindus were prohibited. This sparked off the controversy and she paid 10,000 INR as penalty to conduct the purification rituals.
