Mc Kash Biography

MC Kash is a rapper and performer from Kashmir, who is also a street poet. His real name is Roushan Illahi born in Srinagar in 1990. His name ‘Kash’ is derived from his state – Kashmir. He is a young contributor in bringing the Hip Hop movement to Kashmir. His noted albums include - The Vault (2009-2012), Rebel Republik (2012), Rebel Republik: Liberation (2012), Orchestra Of War (2013) and Hukus Bukus (2014). Both his lyrics and music have got noticed over the years.

 

Being a hip hop artist in one of the most militarised and sensitive places on the planet, Kash was determined to be heard from his home in the Himalayas. He posts his raps on the music site ReverbNation, which has more than 2,000 followers. Some regard his music as inflammatory, anti-Indian - or both. But he insists he is not anti-Indian and would like to collaborate with many Indian artists in future.

 

He was born in 1990 in Srinagar. He studied at Burn Hall School. He was brought up in a bloodshed atmosphere which has influenced him a lot over the years. He has also witnessed the death of his dears and very much aware about the situation of the militant occupied state. In 2008 he released his single "I Protest" became a symbol of people's protest against tyranny. The song went viral over net. Since then he has released many singles, which made him a popular young rapper.

 

MC Kash has given several interviews to international media. He has expressed his concerns about militant occupied Kashmir and the human rights abuses over the years. MC Kash says he is entirely independent, and not paid by any for singing. Once his recording studio was raided. Even while he was doing graduation, he was busy with his career as a rapper.
