Mayank Austen Soofi Biography

Mayank Austen Soofi is a writer, blogger and photojournalist based in Delhi. He is a columnist in Hindustan Times and Mint. His primary interests include subjects on culture, food and literary landscapes of Delhi. He also owns a popular personal blog - The Delhi Walla, compelling guide to India’s capital, which details many things about Delhi. He has also authored a few non-fiction works on Delhi since 2011 such as The Delhi Walla: Delhi Monuments, The Delhi Walla: Delhi Hangouts, The Delhi Walla: Delhi Food+Drink, The Delhi Walla: Portraits and Nobody Can Love You More. The Delhi Walla series was published by HarperCollins in 2011 while Nobody Can Love You More by Penguin Books in 2012.

Mayank Austen Soofi hails from Nainital, Uttarakhand. He moved to Delhi in the mid-2000s, after which he established himself as a successful photographer and blogger. His middle name ‘Austen’ is a tribute to the writer Jane Austen. Initially his writings appeared in the publications of Penguin books, after which he started writing individual books. As of now, he has published a series of 4 guide books with HarperCollins and one with Penguin Books. His book - Nobody Can Love You More is the result of three years spent documenting the lives of people in Delhi's red light district.

When he first arrived in Delhi he used to sleep in a slump next to a bridge. But he feels no regret to live in such difficult living conditions, as it was a good living experience. Now he runs 6 blogs, authored 5 books and also works for the Hindustan Times. He loves to write, take pictures, hang out and get around New Delhi’s bazaars. He has seen Delhi with different eyes, and has captures pictures in different perspectives. Through his blogs he has interviewed a lot of people from all backgrounds.
