Master Manjunath Biography

Manjunath Nayaker, better known as Master Manjunath is a former child artist on television and Indian screen during 1980’s who shot to fame portraying the role of Master Manjunath or Swami in the 1987 classic Doordarshan serial, Malgudi days, based on the works of R.K. Narayan. The series was directed by Kannada actor and director, Shankar Nag and Manjunath Nayaker played the lead role of Swami. After the super success of this series, he came to be known by his screen name, Master Manjunath. He reprised his role in the film version of Malgudi days, titled - Swami And Friends. Manjunath is a National award winning child artist too. In 1987, Swami and Friends earned him a National award.

He belongs to Karnataka, born on 23 December 1976. Since the age of 3, he has been associated with film world and has appeared in 68 movies in Kannada and Hindi. His role in ‘Swami and Friends’ earned him National award as well as international film awards. The television series, Malgudi days was shot during his school vacation in 1985-86, and telecasted in 1987. He was not proficient in Hindi. Yet Malgudi days was shot in Hindi and English.

As a child artist, he played the role of young Amitabh Bachchan in Agneepath (1990), which gave first National award to Big B. Nodi Swamy Navirodu Hige, Sangliana and S.P. Sangliana 2 are his noted Telugu movies as a child artist. At the age of 19, he gave a break to his acting career to completely concentrate to studies. After Master’s degree, he completed Diploma in cinematography and CA Foundation course. Now he is working as a Vice President - PR and Liaison for the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor Project. He is married to noted athlete, Swarnarekha.
