Masaba Gupta Biography

Masaba Gupta is a successful fashion designer who has been associated with Bollywood and its leading actors. Kareena Kapoor, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Kapoor and Mandira Bedi are the leading names with whom she has been associated. She has been the youngest designer to unveil at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2010. She is the daughter of celebrated couple, Neena Gupta and Viv Richards, born out of wedlock. Neena Gupta brought up her as single parent.

Neena Gupta had a relationship with former West Indian cricketer Vivian Richards in the 1980s and Masaba was born in 1989. She was brought up in Mumbai by her mother. In the childhood days, Masaba dreamt to become a tennis player. She played in many inter-school events during her school days. She has been impressed by young Indian ace, Sania Mirza and loves to watch Serena Williams. At the age of 16, she dropped her plan. Being a cricketer’s daughter, it was difficult for her to accept the fact that Sport is not her bread. She later learnt dance and music. She attended music classes at London and also studied at Shiamak Davar’s dancing school. But later she took up the career of fashion designing and joined Shreemati Nathibai Damodar Thackersey Women's University. Wendell Rodricks was her mentor there. She won three awards for her graduation show.

At 19, she applied for Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai. She was supported by her mentor, Rodricks. She named her first collection as 'Kattran'. She joined Satya Paul, designer label known for ethnic clothes in 2012. She joined at the age of 24, thus becoming the youngest fashion director. She is known for designing Unconventional prints along with womanish drapes and silhouettes.
