Marri Shashidhar Reddy Biography

Marri Shashidhar Reddy is an Indian politician from Andhra Pradesh, belonging to Indian National Congress. He is the son of former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Marri Chenna Reddy. Shashidhar Reddy too has remained a prominent Congress leader within state-level and national level politics. He has been elected to Andhra Pradesh state legislative assembly from Sanathnagar constituency four times. Got elected for the first time in a by-election in 1992 from Sanathnagar, he got elected as an MLA from the same constituency in 1994, 2004 and 2009. He is also known as a water activist, who takes up issues related to water constraints.

He was a represented member of India’s delegation to UN commission on "Sustainable Development", held at New York in 1994. After Tsunami struck Indian coasts in 2004, he became a member of the high-powered National Disaster Management Authority, which formulated guidelines how to respond to cyclone and other natural disasters. He also served as Convener of the National level Task Force on Naxal violence set up in 2004.

Marri Shashidhar Reddy was born in Hyderabad, present-day Telangana into a family with strong political background. He was born as the son of very influential politician and former CM, Marri Chenna Reddy and his Savitri Devi. He completed his graduation from St. Stephen's College, Delhi in 1967. He later did graduation in agriculture from Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University. For higher education he moved to US.

Though he had strong educational background, he followed his father’s legacy, and got involved with politics in the early 1990s. He has remained a prominent political leader from Sanathnagar, who was elected by voters four times.
