Manju Pillai Biography

Manju Pillai is a very successful television actress of Malayalam mostly known for comic roles. Her easiness to handle comedy has made her one of the star actors of small screen. She also plays supporting roles in Malayalam cinema. She is the granddaughter of famous Malayalam film comedian of 1960’s and 1970’s - S. P. Pillai. She played one among the 4 heroines in Adoor Gopalakrishnan's acclaimed work - Naalu Pennungal. Manju gave the performance of her lifetime for this movie. Apart from comic roles, she has talent in handling negative roles onscreen as well. She was earlier married to television actor Mukundan. But the couple got separated and now she is married to Sujith Vasudev. The couple tied the knowt in 2000 and has one daughter, Daya.

She was born in 1975 in Thiruvananthapuram. She studied intermediate at Mar Ivanious College. She became a familiar face on Malayalam small screen in the late 1990’s. She acted in a few serials and also was known as an anchor. Sathyavum Mithyayum – was her debut television serial. She was married to noted television and film actor Mukundan with whom she has appeared in a few series in the late 1990’s. But the marriage resulted in a divorce and she re-married in 2000.

She won State Award for the best television actress in the year 2000, for her performance in Devaranjini and Sethuvinte Kathakal. She also bagged the Film Critics' Award the same year. She won state award for best actress for the second time in 2002 for Ali Akbar's Sundaranmarum Sundarikalum. Currently she plays the lead role in the comedy sitcom, Thattiyum muttiyum. The show portrays daily events in a comic touch.
