Mangal Singh Champia Biography

Mangal Singh Champia is an Indian sportsman best known as an archer, and he has represented India in international tournaments. He was conferred with the Arjuna award in the year 2009, for his significant contributions towards the field of Indian archery. He has represented India at 2016 Rio Olympics, Asian Archery Championships, 2010 Asian games, Commonwealth Archery Championships etc and has won a few medals also. He has also been a part of men’s time which won gold at Men's Team Event in 2010 Asian Games. He won a bronze at 15th Asian Archery Championships, China in an individual event.

 

Mangal Singh Champia was born on 9 November 1983, in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. Mangal Singh started archery in 1995 and made his international debut (pro) in 2008. He is a right-handed sportsman. Apart from sports, listening to music is his favourite hobby. When he became pro in 2008, he finished his ranking round with a total of 678 points, which was equal to the points of Viktor Ruban. He was just one point behind Juan René Serrano, famous athlete from Mexico.

 

As an individual and also team member, he has represented India at various international tournaments. Gold at Men's Team Event in 2010 Asian Games is one of his major achievements. He also won gold at 3rd Asian Grand Prix, Iran. He also received medals at 2nd Commonwealth Archery Championships held in India and 3rd Asian Archery Grand Prix Tournament held at Indonesia. He was a member of Men’s team which won gold at 2008 Antalaya, 2009 Santo Domingo, 2009 Croatia and 2010 Antalaya. He has represented India at Asian games twice.
