Mandar Rao Dessai Biography

Mandar Rao Dessai is an Indian professional footballer from. He is associated with professional matches since 2011, and has played for the Indian football clubs such as Dempo, FC Goa and Bengaluru FC. He is a member of Indian national team, who played for U23 and also plays for Indian Super League - professional football league in India. He plays as a left winger for Goa in the Indian Super League. He remains one of the top players for Goa since the first season, and has played more than 50 matches till now. He has played for Bengaluru FC in 2017.

 

Mandar Rao Dessai was born on 18 March 1992 in Mapusa in Goa. He first joined the club Dempo in 2013, marking his career beginning in football. He made his professional debut for Dempo in the 2013-14 I-League, and played his first match on 22 September 2013 against Shillong Lajong. His team lost that match with the score 0-3. He was signed for three seasons since 2013.

 

He played the first season of ISL in the year 2014, playing for his home team Goa. Desai’s stock has been on the rise since the inaugural Indian Super League. He played for FC Goa in 2014 and 2015 on loan, before he was signed by the professional club for 2016 season. For the team FC Goa, he has played some of the significant matches in different seasons.

 

He is still uncapped for the Indian national senior team following a bitter fall-out with coach Stephen Constantine in 2015. He received good support from Goa coach Sergio Lobera. He failed to turn up for the national camp ahead of the 2015 SAFF Championships in Thiruvananthapuram, and that’s how Fernandes and Dessai got suspended.
