Malini Awasthi Biography 
Malini Awasthi is renowned folk singer who sings in Hindi language dialects like Awadhi, Bundelkhandi and Bhojpuri, apart from Thumri and Kajri forms of light music. She has also done playback singing for many Bollywood songs for the movies - Bumm Bumm Bole, Agent Vinod, Dum Laga Ke Haisha and Chaarfutiya Chhokare. She rendered her voice for the popular track "Sunder Susheel" of latest hit Dum Laga Ke Haisha aside Rahul Ram. “Saiyyan Mile" of Chaarfutiya Chhokare, "Dil Mera Muft Ka Remix" of Agent Vinod and "Mann Ki Asha" of Bumm Bumm Bole are her popular Bollywood songs.
Malini was born in Kannauj, Uttar Pradesh. She took post-graduation in Hindustani classical music from Bhatkhande University Lucknow and took vocals from the acclaimed singer, Girija Devi. Together they have worked plans to bring folk music to schools and colleges, as a part of curricular. She is married to Awanish Kumar Awasthi a senior IAS officer and the couple has two children. She is a winner of Sahara Awadh Samman for 2003. In her opinion, urbanization and migration are the main concerns associated with the decline of folk music in the country. Yet she feels it’s in villages folk music disappears fast.
Malini is known for her high pitch voice which suits thumari as well as fast Bollywood numbers. Thaade Rahio Baanke Shyam is one of her most popular thumris. This song vividly captures the emotions of a newly married bride when she leaves her father's home and is most popular among Malini’s renditions. She is a regular performer at popular classical music festival, Jahan-e-Khusrau and performed at Kumbh Mela 2013 also. Known for her lively performances, she is often accompanied by Pandit Rajkumar on tabla, Dharm Nath Mishra on harmonium, Pandit Vinod Mishra on sarangi and Chitra Dayal on tanpura.
