Both the kids were trained by Shekhar babu, the first Indian to climb the Mount Everest alone, without any group.

She was accompanied by Sandhana Palli Anand Kumar,a Class 9th student from Khammam and both were awarded a cash reward of Rs 25 lakh by  Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for the outstanding achievement. Same amount was given to B. Shekhar Babu of Nalgonda, who trained both the students in mountaineering. Five acres of agriculture land with all facilities and agriculture investment for one year were also rewarded to both, as they brought pride to the newly formed state Telangana. Now she is doing her school education at Telangana Social Welfare Residential School. She dreams to become an IPS officer and also loves to climb many mountains across the world.

Malavath Purna was born in the year 2000 to a poor family in Pakala village, Sirkonda Mandal, Nizamabad of present-day Telangana. She belongs to a tribal family and both her parents work in farm and they together earn 3000 rupees a month. So sending her and her siblings to school was also a major challenge to her parents. She was hand-picked by the Andhra Pradesh Social Welfare Residential Schools, a government organisation where she did her studies. When the organisation took up the challenge to send tribal kids on this expedition, she was one among those selected. She was sent to a mountaineering institute in Darjeeling for preparation, where she spent 8 months in training. Seeing her high endurance level, she was selected for the expedition.
