Mala Roy Biography

Mala Roy is an Indian politician from the state of West Bengal, affiliated to Trinamool Congress. He currently serves as a parliamentarian in the 17th Lok Sabha headed by Narendra Modi and represents constituency. In 2019 general elections, three women have been elected and send to Lok Sabha, and Mala Roy is one among those. Queen Oja (from Guwahati parliamentary seat) and Pratima Bhowmik (Tripura West) are those names.

Her maiden name is Mala sarkar, and she was born on 19 November 1957 in Kolkata. She graduated from Calcutta University in 1976. She got married into a political family, which began her active journey in politics. She is married to Nirbed Ray, who is the vice president and former MLA of the Trinamool Congress party, West Bengal. Her active career began in 1995 when she was elected to the Kolkata Municipal Corporation as a councillor from ward no.88. In those days she was associated with Indian National Congress.

After Trinamool Congress party was formed by Mamta Banerjee in the late 1990s, she switched the party affiliation to new one, and for the past two decades or so, she is one of the prominent female political leaders from West Bengal. In the 2000s and later she has switched her party affiliations very often and has been associated with Trinamool Congress, INC, Nationalist Congress Party etc. In year 2000, she retained her seat in Kolkata Municipal Corporation as Trinamool Congress candidate. In 2005, she contested as a candidate of the Nationalist Congress Party and defeated Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar of Trinamool.

In 2014 Indian general elections she unsuccessfully contested from Kolkata Dakshin constituency as a candidate of the Congress party, and finished in 4^th position. In 2019 she contested and won the same constituency and joined parliament for the first time.
