Mainak Bhaumik Biography

Mainak Bhaumik is a noted film editor and director associated with Bengali cinema. He is a new generation director known for experimental and bold themes. He started his film career in 2006 as an independent director with the movie – Aamra, a sex comedy showing the new breed obsessed with sex. Family Album (2015) is his latest work as a film director which tells about the same sex relationship between two girls. Earlier he has done movies like Ami Aar Amar Girlfriends (2013) and Bedroom (2012).

 

He is an NRI born and brought up in New York. His family belongs to Kolkata, West Bengal. Bhaumik started his career in 1998 by directing a short film His Life - Her Story. The short film bagged an award at Florida film festival. He did one documentary film in 2005, Gone to Pat which bagged him the second international award, won at Washington DC. While shuttling between Kolkata and New York, he edited the bilingual - ‘The Bong Connection’, which tells the relationship between a mother and her daughter. Surviving Chau and Melting Wok – are his short films. His short films have given him international acclamation.

 

After a break of 6 long years, he directed his second venture, Bedroom in 2012, which was discussed across various platforms. The movie told about the depression of youth, failures and addiction to Fb.  The movie included an ensemble star cast of Rahul Banerjee, Abir Chatterjee, Paoli Dam, Parno Mittra, Ushasie Chakraborty, Rudranil Ghosh, Tanushree Chakraborty and Vikram Chatterjee. Maach Mishti & More (2013), Ami Aar Amar Girlfriends (2013), Take One (2014), Kolkata Calling (2014) and Family Album (2015) are his directorial ventures.
