Mahua Mukherjee Biography 
Mahua Mukherjee is an Indian classical dancer, who is an expertise of less-known Gaudiya Nritya, a traditional dance form from Bengal which originates from Gauda, also known as Gaur. Mahua Mukherjee has been credited to reconstructing this dance form. Yet it is not recognised as an Indian classical dance by the Sangeet Natak Akademi. She serves as the director of institutes Gaudiya Nritya Bharati and Mitrayan. Mahua is also a researcher and teacher, who is currently associated with Rabindra Bharati University. She serves as the Dean of the faculty of fine arts since 2014.
She holds a doctorate in botany subject. Yet Dr. Mahua Mukherjee has dedicated herself to reviving the classical dance forms of Bengal. Her role to work for the revival of less known dance form of Bengal, Gaudiya Nritya is immensely huge. Through her efforts, the dance form is slowly gaining attention among the masses, and many dancers are coming forward to perform this dance version. It is something like discovery of a new classical dance form which never existed before. She revived Bengal's very own classical dance form, Gaudiya Nritya, and currently teaches other students. She has been featured in the documentary film Geetmay Tanmay - Trance in Motion by FDI.
As a dancer she first learnt Bharathnatyam, followed by Kirtan Nritya, Purulia Chau and Nachni. But at some point of time, she completely switched over to Gaudiya Nritya, which she revived, reconstructed and presented before audience. She also authored one book on this traditional dance form of Bengal. Once she happened to visit Ananta Vasudeva temple in Bengal's Hooghly district. The temple had beautiful sculptures of dancers and musicians, which prompted her to think more about the dance tradition. That’s how she got interested in Gaudiya Nritya.
