Mahrukh Tarapor Biography 
Mahrukh Tarapor is a museum professional and art consultant from Mumbai. For her overall contributions towards the field of Indian art and culture, government of India honoured him with Padma Shri in 2013. Her contributions are mostly towards Islamic art. She has also contributed to the organization of several international art exhibitions. She has been the associate Director of Exhibitions and the Director of International Affairs with the Metropolitan Museum, New York, apart from holding several positions of significance. She has been honoured by governments of France, Morocco and Spain for her contributions towards the field.
Mahrukh Tarapor was born into a Parsi family in Mumbai in 1946. She received a doctorate from Harvard University before she began her professional career. In 1983 she joined Metropolitan Museum, New York. Within the next 10 years she rose to higher ranks and reached the position of Associate Director for Exhibitions. As an administrator she played an important role in the process of exhibition of Al-Andalus: The Art of Islamic Spain in Alhambra in Granada, the conservation of Minbar from the Kutubiyya Mosque at the Badic Palace, Marrakesh and many more. She also took efforts to raise loans for many intercultural exhibitions.
She became the Director of International Affairs, at the Met's international affairs office at Geneva, in 2006, a position she held for next three years till her retirement. Later she continued as a consultant. Egyptian Art in the Age of the Pyramids, Trade and Diplomacy of the Second Millennium BC held in 2008 and Art of the First Cities: The Third Millennium B.C. from the Mediterranean to the Indus are some of the international art exhibitions with which she has been associated with, in the role of an art consultant.
