Mahipal Maderna Biography

Mahipal Maderna is an Indian politician from Rajasthan who worked with Indian National Congress. He served as the Water Resources Minister of Rajasthan in Ashok Gehlot's ministry, before he was thrown out of the cabinet, when he was found guilty in Bhanwari Devi case. Bhanwari went missing in 2011, after she started blackmailing two politicians – Maderna and Congress legislator Malkhan Singh for huge sum of money, showing Cd in which Maderna and others were seen in a compromising position. Later Devi's body location was searched by CBI which resulted in the political career end of Maderna.

Maderna comes from a landlord family of Lakshman nagar. His father Parasram Maderna was a cabinet minister in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. Mahipal holds an LLB degree. He entered politics and became a member of Indian national Congress. Maderna was elected as the chief of Jodhpur Zilla Parishad in 1981, 1988, 1994 and 2000. In 2003, he was elected to the 12th State Legislative Assembly from Bhopalgarh. He was elected to the 13th State Legislative Assembly from Osian, Jodhpur.

Mahipal Maderna was accused of being involved in a case related to disappearance of a nurse named Bhanwari Devi. In November 2011, Rehana, the girlfriend of the key suspect Shahabuddin, leaked an audio clip to the reporters. In a conversation held between Rehana and Shahabuddin in Jodhpur Central Jail, Shahabuddin said that Bhanwari Devi was handed over to the gang of Pradeep Godara, a criminal. Then Chief Minister, Ashok Gehlot was rebuked by High Court about his cold response. Thus Maderna lost his cabinet position in 2011. In the early 1970’s, Maderna along with Vijay Poonia was also accused of murder of a student Dilip Singh in Jaipur.
