Mahima Chaudhry Biography

Mahima Chaudhry is a former model and heroine of Bollywood during the second half of 90’s. She is most noted for her roles in Pardes, Daag The fire, Dhadkan and Dil kya kare. She debut Bollywood with Subash Ghai’s Pardes opposite Shah Rukh Khan in the year 1997, yet couldn’t repeat the success of Pardes though stayed in Bollywood for quite a long time.

Born in Darjeeling West Bengal, she started her career as model of ads during 90’s. Walls ice cream, Pepsi and Premier Beauty talc were her popular ads. She was noticed by Showman Subhash Ghai while she was doing VJ of music channels. Her original name was Ritu Chaudhry and her name was changed by the director as he believed that ‘M’ is his lucky letter similar to Madhuri Dixit and Meenakshi Sheshadri. Later she continued in the industry with the name Mahima Chaudhry itself. Her role as a village girl in the movie was well appreciated. She was nominated for best actress in Filmfare and she won debut actress award too. But due to her personal indifferences between the director Subhash Ghai, he dropped her from his projects forever and she was a bit unlucky too, to make use of her dream entry in Bollywood. In 1999, she did double role in the movie Daag, opposite Sanjay Dutt and Chandrachur singh. This movie was a box office hit.

Later she began to do supporting actress role in movies like Dhadkan and Dil kya kare. Her role was well appreciated in both the movies and she won Filmfare nominations too. In Dhadkan, she did the role of a girl madly in love with a person who was in love with someone else and she wins him in the end. In Dil kya kare she did the role of a betrayed wife and her role as Ajay Devgan’s wife was most appreciated. In 2001, she was casted opposite Suniel Shetty by Priyadarshan in the movie, ‘Yeh mera ghar yeh mera ghar’, a remake of his own Malayalam flick – Sammanasullavarkku Samadhanam. Though the comic movie was critically well acclaimed it failed at box office. Her role in Lajja was also well appreciated.

Other movies include Zameer: The fire, Southen: The other woman, Deewane, Kurukshetra, Home delivery, Dil hai tumhara, Om jai jagdish, Baghban, LOC Kargil, Khiladi 420, Sandwich and Pyar koi khel nahin.
