Madhur Bhandarkar Biography

Madur Bhandarkar is a versatile director of present times who is famous for women oriented movies. Not only has that, almost all heroines of his movies won national awards. Also, he has won National awards and Filmfare awards as well. His critically well acclaimed movies include Chandini Bar, Page 3 and Fashion. For his movie Traffic signal, he has won National awards for best director. In 2002, Chandini bar won Best Film on Other Social Issues.  In 2005, Page 3 gave him best film award at national awards. For Chandini Bar, Tabu won her second National award. For Page 3, Konkana Sen won it while Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut won best actress, best supporting actress awards for the movie ‘Fashion’ (National awards as well as Filmfare). However, Heroine with Kareena Kapoor in the leading role couldn’t win serious applause nor did it receive positive ratings and the movie failed at box office too. The movie has been in news since Aiswarya Rai was casted for this movie at first. In the movie ‘Jail’, Neil Nithin Mukesh was casted as the protagonist.  

As a director, his other movies include – Corporate, Dil to bacha hai jee, Aan: men at work and Satta. He has also acted as an actor in the movie Rangeela in supporting role. This role can be considered as his first step to Bollywood. Before that, he worked in a video cassette library. He used to see movies and learnt the primary lessons of film making from it. He became the assistant of Ram Gopal Varma, for his movie Rangeela in 1995. He did a bit role as well.

As a director, Trishakthi was his directorial debut, released three years after Rangeela. This low budget movie consisted of unknown stars and no one even noticed its release. Chandini Bar, released in 2002 was critically well acclaimed, accumulated a lot of praises from audience and critics, accumulated a lot of awards as well. It included international awards as well. Thus began the successful journey of Madur Bhandarkar. Today he is one among the most reputed directors of the industry known for movies with a life. Heroines also consider it as luck to act in his movies, as they bring many appreciations to them.
