Madhoo Biography

Madhubala Raghunath, shortly known as Madhu is a successful heroine of Indian screen. She has done super hit movies like Roja and Gentleman in Tamil and Yoddha in Malayalam. Her father Raghunath is the brother of actress Hema malini. Madhubala lost her mother at the age of 14 and she was inspired by her aunt to become a heroine.

She debut film industry with Malayalam flick Ottayaal Pattalam opposite Mukesh in 1990. In 1991, a string of movies were released in her name of which Neelgiri, opposite Mamootty and Ennodishtam Koodamo opposite Mukesh were Malayalam movies. She debut Tamil and Hindi exactly the same year – Phool aur Kante happened to be the debut movie of Ajay Devgan too and was commercially and critically successful. Tamil debut movie Azhagan along with Mammooty was also successful at box office. In 1992, two big hit movies in the name of Madhubala – Sangeet Sivan’s Yoddha and Mani Ratnam’s Roja. A.R.Rehman gave music to both these movies and these two are his first works as a music director. She was paired opposite Mohan lal in Yodha and Aravind Swamy in Roja. Despite getting success from Malayalam movies, she left it forever and concentrated to Tamil and Hindi movies.

But she couldn’t achieve success in Bollywood the same way she dreamt of. Her movies opposite Akshay Kumar – Elaan and Zaalim and Pehchaan opposite Suniel Shetty couldn’t help her to survive in Bollywood. Movies like Prem rog and Janta ki adalat also proved big disasters in box office. By this time, Gentleman opposite Arjun (music by A.R.Rehman) became a great hit in Tamil (1993). She concentrated to Tamil movies. Yet she did a few Bollywood movies like Hathkadi (opposite Govinda) and Diljale (opposite Ajay Devgan) in supporting role, Hum hai bemisaal (opposite Suniel shetty), Diya aur toofan, Ravan raaj and Jallad (opposite Midhun Chakravorthy), Udaan, Chehraa, Mere sapnom ki rani and Return of Jewel thief. But none could give her the success of her debut movie Phool aur Kaante and dubbed version of Roja.

Her most successful Tamil movies are Romeo, Roja and Gentleman. Now she has returned to acting field and has done a few movies like Tell me oh khudda and Love you Mr.Kalakar.
