Madhavi Biography

Madhavi is an Indian actress who works for Malayalam, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, Oriya, Hindi and Bengali movies. In a career spanning seventeen years, she has acted in three hundred films. Among all her Bollywood movies, her supporting role in Ek duje ke liye is her memorable performance. In its original Telugu version titled ‘Maro charithra’ released in the year 1978, she did the same role. Later when this movie was remade to Hindi, she reprised the same role opposite Kamal Hassan. She earned a Filmfare Award nomination as Best Supporting Actress for this role. Among her movies in Malayalam, Aakasha dooth and Oru vadakkan veeragatha are her most memorable performances.

 

Madhavi was born as Vijaya lakshmi in Hyderabad, Andra Pradesh. She is a trained Bharat Natyam dancer. She attended Stanley Girls High School in Hyderabad. She debut silver screen as a teenager through the Telugu movie - Thoorupu Padamara. Later she worked in all South Indian languages, along with Bengali, Oriya and Hindi.

 

She debut Tamil opposite Rajnikanth through the movie Thillu Mullu, released in the year 1981. Her debut to Hindi was opposite Kamal Hassan in the movie Ek duje ke liye in the year 1982. Madhavi acted alongside Kamal Haasan in Raja Paarvai, Tik Tik Tik, Kaakki Sattai and Mangamma Sabadham. She has acted numerous films with Rajnikanth too. Those movies include Garjanai, Thambikku Entha Ooru, Un Kannil Neer Vazhindal and Viduthalai. She has acted with all leading stars of South India including Mammooty, Mohan Lal, Rajnikanth, Kamal Hassan, Chiranjeevi and Narasimha Raju. She was successfully paired opposite Amitabh bachchan for the successful movie – Agneepath.

 

Madhavi debut Malayalam with Lava in the year 1980, opposite Prem nazir. Next year she won Kerala state second best actress award for her role in Valarthu Mrugangal. Her most memorable Malayalam movies include - Valarthu Mrugangal, Aakasha dooth, John Jaffer Janardhanan, Nombarathi Poovu, Gandhari, Aksharam, Sudhinam, Ormakkai, Aayiram naavulla Ananthan, Akkare, Prem nazirine kanmanilla, Mangalam Nerunnu, Oru Kudakeezhil, Oru katha oru nuna katha and Oru vadakkan veeragatha. She won Kerala State Film Award for Second Best Actress for Aakashadooth. This movie gave her Filmfare best actress award too. This movie was a remake of Hindi movie, Mere baad, the role done by Rakhee Gulzar.

 

Her best Hindi roles include – Ek duje ke liye, Swarg, Giraftaar, Agneepath, Pyar ka mandir and Andha Kanoon.
