Madhan (cartoonist) Biography

Madhan is a famous cartoonist and media personality from Tamil Nadu. He is a leading writer and film critic who worked with Ananda Vikatan magazine, one of the leading magazines of Tamil language. He wrote the dialogues for the highly praised film - Anbe Sivam starring Kamal Hassan and Madhavan, and also played a cameo role in the film. His work - Vandhargal Vendrargal is an account of Mughal rule in India. He launched a Tamil magazine 'Vin Naayagan' in 1999, but it was unsuccessful. Associated with Ananda Vikatan magazine for long 30 years, he was removed from the post in 2012 citing that stating that he behaves pro-AIADMK. He was a jury member of the TV show, Naalaya Iyakunar Season-1.

Madhan was born on July 11, 1947 in Srirangam, Tamil Nadu. His real name is Maadapoosi Krishnaswamy Govinda Iyengar. Though he hails from Thanjavur, he was brought up in Chennai where he completed his studies. He started his career as cartoonist at Ananda Vikatan magazine in the 1970s, after S. Balasubramanian took over the administration. Later he held many prominent positions in the Ananda Viketan media group including assistant editor of Ananda Vikatan and Junior Vikatan. His interactive column Hi Madhan was indeed popular those days.

Later he anchored a few shows on television which included a questioning program on Sun TV in the late 1990s. "Madhan's Thirai Paarvai" in Star Vijay and "Madhan's Talkies" on Java TV are the other shows hosted by Madhan. He wrote many columns for Ananda Viketan. His series for Ananda Viketan - Manithanukkul Mirugum was later published as a book. A noted film critic too, he often uses cartoons to represent films. Currently he is busy with TV shows as an anchor and presenter.
