Madan Lal Biography

Madan Lal is a former Indian cricketer who has also served as a coach for Indian team and IPL teams.  He was also a member of the 1983 World Cup final winning team. As an all-rounder of the team in the 1970s and 1980ss, he played 39 test matches and 67 ODIs for India. He scored 1042 runs and 40 wickets in his test career, while scored 401 runs and 73 wickets from his 67 ODI games which includes one half century too. He has also scored 5 half centuries from his test matches. He has also played for Delhi and Punjab teams in First class cricket. He is a right handed batsman and bowls Right-arm medium. Most recently in 2013 he made his television debut through Hum Ne Li Hai- Shapath on Life OK.

 

His full name is Madan Lal Udhouram Sharma. He was born on March 20, 1951, Amritsar, Punjab. He made his test debut in the year 1974 against England at Manchester and One-day the same year against England at Leeds. He bowled the first ball to Dennis Amiss of England in the 1975 World Cup. He played his last test game against England at Leeds in 1986 and ODI against Pakistan at Hyderabad in 1987. For many years he served Indian team as a pivot player and all-rounder. As a leading utility player, he played as a middle-order batsman and medium pace bowler.

 

His bowling helped India to win against England at Mumbai in 1981. His 74 against Pakistan at Bangalore in 1983 to rescue India was one of the outstanding batting performances of this all-rounder. Apart from Indian team, he coached Delhi Giants in the Indian Cricket League.
