Maathu Biography

Maathu is a Malayalam film actress who was most active during the 1990’s. She has also appeared in a few Tamil, Telugu and Kannada movies. She played lead roles in many movies. Amaram, where she played Mammootty’s daughter’s role is one of her memorable movie. She played the role of Mammootty’s adopted daughter in Kuttettan. She has been frequently paired aside Siddique, Jagadeesh, Manoj K Jayan and Saikumar. Uppukandam Brothers, Parallel college, Vaarabhalam, Harbour, Oru Abhibhashakante Case Diary, Excuce Me Ithu Collegila, Vaachalam, Rudraksham, Sandhesam, Aayushkalam, Sadayam, Ekalavyan, Radholsavam, Manikya Chempazhukka, Malappuram Haji Mahanaya Joji, Gamanam, Samudhayam, Kaatttile Thadi Thevarude Aana, Keerthanam, Saakshal Sreeman Chattunni, Savidham and Addeham Enna Iddeham are her noted Malayalam roles.

Her real name is Madhavi and she was born in Chennai. She entered cinema as a child artist through Kannada movie Sannadhi Appanna, starring with Dr. Raj Kumar in the lead role. She won Best child artist award from state government for her debut role. 1989 Malayalam movie, Pooram marked her entry as an adult actress while she was in her teens. Next year, she played lead role in Mammootty’s movie Kuttettan. Success of this movie placed Maathu as a successful young actress and promising star of tomorrow in Malayalam screen. She is counted among the top actresses of Malayalam in the 1990’s.  She has played child actress role in many Tamil movies like Koil Mani Osai, Neeya, Bhairavi, Naathu Nattaachu and Jadikketha Moodi.

As an adult actress, she has also acted in Kannada movies like Muddina Kanmani and Rajanna. Her most successful Malayalam movies are Kuttettan, Amaram, Rudraksham, Sandhesam, Vaarabhalam, Uppukkandam brothers and Malappuram Haaji Mahanaya Joji. She played Jayaram’s wife’s role in Kamal’s comedy thriller – Ayushkaalam. She got married in the year 1999 and settled in US. But the couple divorced in 2012.
