M. S. Thripunithura Biography

Madathipparambil Seshaniyyar Venkatrama Iyer, popularly known by his stage name M. S. Thripunithura was a character artist of Malayalam cinema. He was a versatile stage actor also, who has won state awards for acting. He is known for supporting roles of Malayalam cinema. His first Malayalm film was Kadalamma. Oru Minnaminunginte Nurunguvettam, Perumthachan, His Highness Abdullah, Santhwanam, Bharatham and Yodha are his most memorable roles and known for handling both serious and comic roles. His distinct dialogue delivery style made him a popular artist of Malayalam cinema. He was also a Carnatic musician and had interests in Sanskrit and astrology.

 

He was born on 10 October 1941 in Thrippunithura of Ernakulam district. The tag ‘Thrippunithura’ got added to his name. He was a mathematics teacher with a passion of acting. He got actively involved in theater at a younger age and it gave him film offers later. Though he became a well-known film actor, he led a simple life as usual and very often seen pedaling his bicycle through the streets of Thrippunithura. The play, Mochanam gave him Kerala state award for best actor. He has also learnt Carnatic music and was equally interested in astrology. He was also a great cook got learned the cookery lessons from his grandfather, who has served as the cook for the Maharajah of Kochi.

 

Yodha directed by Sangeeth Sivan is one of the memorable movies of his career. He played the role of uncle of both Mohanlal and Srinivasan, who got married and settled in Nepal. He played the role of Parvathy’s father in Oru Minnaminunginte Nurunguvettam. He died on 8 March 2006 following a cardiac arrest, on his way to home.
