M. S. Baburaj Biography 
M.S.Baburaj was one of the leading music directors of Malayalam during 60’s and 70’s. Numerous compositions of Baburaj are always regarded as evergreen compositions of Malayalam. He has given numerous amazing songs to Yesudas and Janaki and his partnership with Janaki was always compared to Madan Mohan – Lata Mangeshkar songs during the era of 60’s of Bollywood. A few of precious gems of this combination include - Sooryakanthi... Sooryakanthi..., Kanmaniye (karthika), Anjana Kannezhuthi, Thaliritta kinakkal than, Oru Kochu Swapnathin Chirakumayi, Thamarakumbilallo Mama Hrudayam and Akale Akale Neelakasam(a duet song while the rest are solos). Though he was a genius of the era of 60’s and 70’s, his last days were spent in poverty and miseries.
Baburaj was born on 29 March 1921 in Kozhikode and his childhood days were not pleasant memories to him. His father was a Bengali. He was a Bengali musician who married Baburaj’s mother who was a Kozhikode native. He deserted her when Babu was young and went to Bengal. Yet, he started learning Hindustani music from his father. To earn a living, Baburaj used to sing in trains. Once a policeman, Kunjahammed happened to hear Baburaj singing. He was a great fan of Babu’s father and impressed by the singing talent of Babu, he adopted him and provided all help to learn music.
His career started by composing songs for dramas of Malabar and first chance to movies was given by Ramu Kariat – the legendary director of Malayalam who directed ‘Chemmeen’. The movie was ‘Minnaminungu’. Ramu was an accomplished singer and harmonium player. Baburaj died an early death, on 7 October 1978 at the age of 57.
Among all lyricists his combinations was noted most with Bhaskaran. He has recorded maximum songs with Yesudas and Janaki of which a few are classics! He has composed numerous songs for actor Satyan. A few of hit Satyan songs (Satyan movies) include – Akale akale neelakasam, Adyathe kanmani, Annu ninte Nunakkuzhi , Akkareyaanante thamasam, Vellichilanga aninjum, Paavada prayathil and Anjana Kannezhuthi. A few more hits - Kottum njan keettilla, Kadale Neela Kadale, Pranasakhee Njan Verumoru, Kadale Neela Kadale , Arabi Kadaloru Manavatti , Innale mayangumbol, Surumayezhuthiya Mizhikale , Pancha Varna Thatha Pole , Thamsamenthe Varuvan, Oru pushpam, Innente Karalile, Ezhuthiyatharanu Sujatha, Maamalakalkkapurathu and Aadiyil Vachanamundaayi.
