M. R. Rajakrishnan Biography

M. R. Rajakrishnan is an audiographer from Kerala who works in Indian movies. He is the son of famous music composer, M. G. Radhakrishnan. He predominantly works in Malayalam cinema, and is a part of Bollywood, Marathi and other south Indian language films. A recipient of Kerala state awards for best sound mixing thrice, he won it for the first time in 2011 for the movies - Urumi, Chaappa Kurish & also won it the following year for the movie, Manchadikuru directed by Anjali Menon. He won it for the third time for the movie, Charlie in 2015. He won Kerala Film Critics Award for Best Sound Mixing for his work in Keerthichakra in 2006 and many more. The film Manchadikuru also earned him Pearl Award for Best Sound design.

Rajakrishnan was born on May 25, 1977 in Thiruvananthapuram into a musical family. He is the son of M. G. Radhakrishnan, one of the renowned music composers of Malayalam cinema. His mother, Padmaja Radhakrishnan is also an artist and writer. Both his grandparents were musicians. His uncle M. G. Sreekumar is a famous Malayalam playback singer, who has sung in other languages too, including Bollywood. Rajakrishnan too took formal lessons in Carnatic music. Yet he chose audiography and sound design as his profession, though related to music and sound.

He studied sound designing from Chethana Studio, Thrissur, and started his career as an assistant sound engineer under music composer, Deepan Chatterjee. He worked as an assistant for 70 movies, followed by Four Frames Sound Company, Chennai as an assistant. Later he became the chief sound engineer and worked for over 200 films in various languages. His job roles include sound designing & sound mixing.
