M. K. Kanimozhi Biography

M. K. Kanimozhi is a DMK MP and her parents are former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu M. Karunanidhi and Rajathi Ammal. She is a poet and journalist and influenced by her father, she entered politics when she was nominated to the Rajya Sabha representing Tamil Nadu in the year 2007. She belongs to Dravida Munnetra Kazhalagam party and was the chief of art and literature wing of DMK.

 

M. K. Kanimozhi is seen as the literary heir of her father and was a student of Church Park Convent, Chennai. Later she got Masters degree in Economics in Ethiraj College for Women. She worked as sub editor for The Hindu and as editor of Kungumam and feature editor for Tamil Murasu. She has written a number film songs and Tamil poetry. She was married twice first to Athiban Bose and then to G. Aravindan and has one son. Her literary works include Sigarangalil Uraikiradhu Kaalam, Raaja, Agathinai, Paarvaigal, Karukum Marudhaani, and Karuvarai Vaasanai.

 

M. K. Kanimozhi is interested in organizing empowerment programs for women and supports the cause of transgenders and differently-abled people. She spearheaded the efforts of DMK in organizing job fairs thus improving the employment opportunity for youngsters from small towns and villages.

 

She was caught up in a number of controversies in 2010. Radia tapes controversy and 2G spectrum scam are most important ones. She was accused of the co-conspirator of A.Raja who was then the Minister of Communications and Information Technology in the 2G wireless spectrum allocations. On 21st December 2017, a special CBI court acquitted her along with 19 others accused including A Raja in 2G spectrum allocation cases. The Court said that the prosecution has miserably failed to prove any of its charge. Thus all accused are acquitted.
