M. Jeevan Biography

M.Jeevan is a film director, cinematographer and still photographer associated with south Indian film industry. He predominantly works in Tamil and Telugu cinema. He has worked as a still photographer for some of the best films of Shankar in the 1990s and later, during his early days. As a cinematographer he began his career in the mid-2000s, and as a director in 2009. As of now, he has directed four films – Gnabagangal, Mayilu, Amara and Mosakutty. Noted cinematographer Sukumar of Maina and Kumki fame is his younger brother. In fact, Sukumar started his career as an assistant to Jeevan in the 1990, before he became a full-fledged cinematographer.

M.Jeevan hails from Madurai, Tamil Nadu. He began his career as a still photographer in Tamil films in the mid-1990s. As a still photographer, he has worked with some of the leading directors of the industry like Shankar, Mani Ratnam, Rajiv Menon etc, and some of his early works include - Jeans, Bombay, Kandukondein Kandukondein etc. Similar to his younger brother, he made a good relationship with Solomon, and worked as a still photographer for his movies - Minnale (2001), Samurai (2002) and King (2002). Later the brothers began their careers as cinematographer under the same director, and often used to exchange their projects and assignments for convenience in working.

As a cinematographer, he has worked for the movies – Mynaa, Nenjirukkum Varai, Thoothukudi, Kokki, Karka Kasadara, Saattai, Nimirndhu Nil, Janda Pai Kapiraju, Nayyapudai etc. He closely worked with his brother for the projects like Mynaa and Kokki. He turned a director with 2009 film, Gnabagangal and has directed three more movies. He has launched many actors to Tamil cinema through his movies, and regularly makes movies with newcomers.
