Lena Biography

Lena is a Malayalam film actress who has acted in several critically acclaimed movies and television. She is also known by the names - Lena Kumar, or Lena Abhilash. She was married to screenwriter Abhilash Kumar since 2004. But now the couple has separated. She is now a familiar face of Malayalam cinema known for portraying several supporting roles. She debut big screen in the year 2008 with the movie Sheham, where she portrayed the role of younger sister of Jayaram. Most recently she played supporting role of Roopa, the best friend of lead heroine Tanu Roy in critically acclaimed movie -Ee Adutha Kaalathu, for which she received a loud applause from audience and critics. Now she frequently appears in Malayalam movies playing middle-aged wife’s roles.   

Lena was born to Mohandas and Teena in Thrissur. Her school education was done at Thrissur. She holds a post-graduation in clinical psychology and has worked in Mumbai for a short while before quitting her profession to enter full-time acting. In 1998, she appeared as a teenager in critically acclaimed movie – Sheham, marking her big screen debut. It was followed by Karunam, Oru Cheru Punchiri and Varna Kazhchakal playing teenager or student roles. Varnakkazchchakal, Summer palace, Kochu Kochu Santhoshangal and Oru cheru punchiri are other noted appearances. Then she joined small screen and became one of the popular actresses of small screen and won several awards as well. In 2008, for the serial, Arana Zhika Neram she received Kerala State TV Award for Best Actress. Same year she received Atlas Film Critics TV Award for Best Second Actress for Chilluvillakku.

She continued acting in supporting roles in big screen as well, till she got big break in the form of 2011 movie – Traffic. She received Amrita Film Award for Best Supporting Actor (Female) for the same role. Later she became a regular face of Malayalam cinema, portraying different genres of roles. Ghaddama, London Bridge, Snehaveedu, Ustad Hotel, Spirit, Bavuttiyude Namathil, In ghost house inn, In Harihar Nagar 2 and Kaaryastan are other noted appearances. Now she is regularly appears in Anoop Menon’s scripted movies and has also played the better half of Siddhique and Anoop Menon in several movies.
