Lekha Washington Biography

Lekha Washington is an Indian film actress and a model who concentrates in South Indian film industry. She has worked with the films of Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Kannada languages. She also appeared as a video jockey with SS Music.

Lekha was born and brought up in Chennai in Tamil Nadu. Her father’s name is Kenneth and he is of Burmese, Italian and Punjabi origin. Her mother belongs to Maharashtra. Her mother tongue is Marathi and she speaks English also at home.

Lekha completed her degree in Fine Arts from Stella Maris College at Chennai and then joined the National Institute of Design. After completing her course in Lifestyle Product Design, she pursued the Film and Video Communication course. Though she took course in film making, she is more interested in appearing before the camera rather than behind it. When she was pursuing her courses on film making, she produced three short films namely Spoonerism, Catch 22 and Sunn.

When she was still in her college, she got a chance to perform in the English film Framed and then got offers to work as video jockey in SS Music. She worked with Silambarasan in the film Kettavan but this was cancelled later on. Apart from these opportunities she also made guest appearance and supporting roles in some films.

Her debut film in Hindi is Peter Gaya Kaam Se with Rajeev Khandelwal. Apart from her cine ventures, she also owns a product design company known as Ajji. Her products are displayed in the Pallate store in Mumbai and she even holds two patents related to this. She is also a good sculptor and has showcased her works in the art exhibition conducted in January 2011 in New Delhi.

She did anchoring during the first season of the Indian Premier League and to work on that she did good research of cricket going through various related journals. She was into criticism at that time for making fun of the umpire. However this anchoring gave her good exposure and helped her to get many more offers from the film producers.
