Laxmi Ratan Shukla Biography 
Laxmi Ratan Shukla is a former cricketer known as a right handed batsman and medium pace bowler. He played three ODIs for national team. A member of Bengal domestic team who served as team captain, he has also played IPL matches as a team member of Delhi Daredevils. This all-rounder was once included into the list of ‘Next Kapil Dev’ league, but he was not able to reach that mark. In December 2015 he has retired from all forms of cricket after 19-years long career and is pitching into politics. He joined West Bengal state politics, bidding for his maiden victory in the West Bengal assembly polls in 2016. He is contesting on Trinamool Congress ticket from Howrah North constituency.
He hails from Howrah, West Bengal. He was born on 6 May 1981. Started playing cricket in the 1990s, he came to spotlight following the Ranji season 1997-1998. After his performance in Indian under-19s team in the MTN Youth World Cup in South Africa, cricket experts predicted a promising career of this cricketer. He was a team member of West Bengal which reached Wills Trophy Semifinal. He was selected to the national team in the year 2000. He made his ODI debut on 22 March 1999 v Sri Lanka and played his last match on 5 September the same year v West Indies. Though he was selected for the test series against Sri Lanka at Colombo in the Asian Test Championship, he was replaced by Ashish Nehra.
Though he was not able to shine in the National team, he excelled as a team member of Bengal domestic team. He was a team member of Bengal which won its maiden Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2012. He was the captain of Bengal team for Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2013. He scored 6172 runs and 144 wickets in his first class career. 250 runs is his highest score as a batsman.
