Laxman Singh Rathore Biography 
Laxman Singh Rathore is an Indian scientist associated with Meteorology and its research works. He retired as Director General of India Meteorological Department, New Delhi in 2016. One of the leading scientists and researcher of this field, Laxman is a permanent representative of India with World Meteorological Organization, United Nations. His remained active in the field is for about 26 years during the term, 1980 – 2016 till his retirement. He now serves as a member of Advisory committee of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). He is known for his vast experience in weather & climate prediction, and also giving alerts for extreme weather conditions.
Dr. Laxman Singh Rathore was born on 4 July 1954 in Jodhpur, Rajasthan. His school education till matriculation was completed at Chopasani School, Jodhpur. He completed his graduation in science from Bhupal Nobles College, Udaipur, followed by Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Agriculture from Rajasthan College of Agriculture, Udaipur. After completing his PhD, he joined India Meteorological Department in the year 1980 as Meteorologist and remained in service till 2016.
An agrometeorologist who studies weather and use of weather and climate information to enhance and expand agricultural crops and its production, he played a leading role in setting up the weather based agricultural advisory service in India. It’s regarded as one of his major contributions to the field. An acclaimed weather forecaster, he served as Vice President of Commission of agriculture Meteorology, World Meteorological Organization, UN.
As a weather forecaster, he came to spotlight after predicting about Cyclone Phailin in 2013 and Cyclone Hudhud in 2014, saving many lives and properties. He serves as consultant of World Bank to assist the bank in improving weather & climate services in south Asia.
