Lalitha Lenin Biography

Lalitha Lenin is a Malayalam poet and writer from Thrissur, Kerala. She was also an academician. She has formerly served as the Head of the Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kerala, Thiruvananthapuram. She was also a member in the Senate and Academic Council of the University of Kerala, General Council of Kerala Sahitya Academy and many other literal organizations. Her book, Minnu, was awarded the prestigious Kerala Sahitya Academy Award for children's literature in 1986. Abudhabi Shakti Award for poetry in 1996 and the Moolur Award for poetry in 2001 are other major honours received by her.

Lalitha Lenin was born in 1946 at Thrithalloor, Thrissur. Her husband K. M. Lenin is also a writer and columnist. Her son and daughter-in-law are lawyers, based in Mumbai. She specialized in the subjects - Chemistry, Education and Library Science for her graduation in University of Kerala. She later completed Master of Library Science Degree Examination from the University of Mysore in 1976 and also secured first rank. She was awarded the Dr. S.R. Ranganathan Gold Medal for her academic excellence that time.

Her professional career began as an Assistant Librarian at Kerala Forest Research Institute, Peechi, Kerala in 1977. Two years later she turned an academician and joined Department of Library and Information Science, University of Kerala. Since 1990 she served as the head of department for next five years. She retired from government service in 2006. She started publishing poems and other forms of literal work in magazines and dailies with the early 1970s. Karingili, Karkidavaavu, Namukku Praarthikkaam and Kadal are her poetry collections. She has also scripted for TV programs, documentaries, reality shows etc.
