Lalit Modi Biography

Lalit Modi was the former chairman and commissioner of Indian Premier League. He also acted as the Vice President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India from 2005 to 2010 and Vice President of Punjab Cricket Association. He is also the Managing Director and President of Modi Enterprises and serves as the Executive Director of Godfrey Phillips India. His father was Krishnan Kumar Modi and running the family business established by his grandfather Raj Bahadur Gujarmal Modi.

Lalit Modi studied in Bishop Cotton School in Shimla and attended St Joseph’s College in Nainital. In US, he studied Electrical Engineering and Business Administration At Pace University and Duke University in the time period between 1983 and 1986.

Lalit Modi married Minal. He met her in USA when he was pursuing his education. He has three children, Karima, Ruchir and Aliya. Ruchir had to leave the American School of Bombay in 2010 May due to security reason and currently living in London. Daughter Aliya is studying in Switzerland. Karima is born to the first husband of Minal.

He had a joint venture with Walt Disney Pictures and later became the distributor of ESPN. This organization is called as Modi Entertainment Nerwork. The new owners of eight franchises were announced for IPL in January 2008 under Lalit Modi. He also showed interest in real estate business in Rajasthan. He joined the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association in the year 1999 and Rajasthan Cricket Association in 2005.

He got a seat in the Board of Control for Cricket in India in the year 2004. He was accused for heavily involving in its commercial side. But he was the one who is responsible for the increased revenue of BCCI. He has concluded various deals at the BCCI like Team Sponsorship Deal for Team India with Nike for 4 years in 2005, ESPN deal for Twenty 20 global rights in 2008, IPL undisclosed sum deal with Google and YouTube on 22 January 2010, etc.

There is nothing wrong in saying that he is the key person who is responsible for launching IPL in the year 2009. He created the two new teams in the IPL, Pune and Kochi. His twitter entry regarding this breached the confidentiality and led to the resignation of Indian Minister of State and External affairs Dr. Shashi Tharoor. Lalit Modi was then suspended but he protested his innocence. He got a number of awards and recognitions for his works.
