Lakshmipathy Balaji Biography

Lakshmipathy Balaji is an Indian cricketer who is a right handed batsman and right arm fast medium bowler. He played for Chennai Super Kings team in first three IPL seasons and for Kolkata Knight Riders in the fourth and is a member of the Indian cricket team.

 

Balaji was born on 27th September 1981 in Chennai in Tamil Nadu. His father’s name is Lakshmipathy and his mother’s name is Mallika. His father is an assistant electrical inspector working with the state electrical inspectorate and his mother is an employee of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board. He has two elder sisters named Padmini and Vijayalakshmi who is an engineer working for Cognizant Technology Solutions.

 

In the year 2003, he became a member of the Indian cricket team and he played for state team from the year 2001. He test debut was in 2003 against New Zealand team n Ahmedabad. He had good standing in the Indian team but had to face a setback when he was injured in 2005. He had to come back in the middle of the Pakistan tour in 2005 and he became unfit to play the game for next three years.

 

He entered cricket again in 2997 through domestic matches. He helped Tamil Nadu team to reach the semifinals of the Ranji Trophy in 2008 and this performance made him to take a place in the international squad in 2009 in lieu of Munaf Patel who suffered due to groin injury.

 

He was selected for the test squad and was included in the 30 probables of the World T20 tournament 2012. From the year 2008 he has been playing for Chennai Super Kings team in the IPL. He got his first hat trick of the IPL in the match against Kings XI Punjab. He had pain in his stomach and so underwent an operation in England and then came back successfully.

 

In the second season, in the finals round he picked four wickets leading Chennai Super Kings to win against the Rajasthan Royals on 30th April 2009 and in the third season, his economical bowling was always praised by the team captain MS Dhoni. He was purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders in the fourth IPL season.
