Laila Mehdin Biography

Laila Mehdin, popularly known as Laila is a successful actress of Tamil cinema. She was most active in the industry during late 1990’s, till 2006 and later got married to Mehdin and settled with family life. Her most memorable Tamil movies include – Dheena and Bala-directed films Nandha and Pithamagan. Her innocent and traditional looks have made her a popular face of Tamil cinema. Apart from Tamil, she has also acted in Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada and Hindi movies. She was paired opposite Mohanlal in successful Malayalam flick, Mahasamudram released in the year 2006. Pithamagam is regarded as the best performance of Laila till now. This movie helped her to earn Tamil nadu state award, ITFA Best Actress Award and Filmfare best actress award.

 
Laila was born on 24 October 1980. In 1996, she appeared in supporting role in Hindi movie - Dushman Duniya Ka. This movie was widely promoted for the appearance of Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan together, after their successful movie, Karan Arjun in 1995. Despite the huhe promotions, the movie went unnoticed. The following year she debut south Indian movies with Telugu flick - Egire Paavurama. Soon she appeared in a few more Telugu movies like – Ugadi, Naa Hrudayamlo Nidurinchee Cheli, Pellichesukundam, Pavitra Prema, Khaidi Garu and Subhalekalu during late 1990’s. She has appeared in character role in the super hit Tamil movie, Muthalvan released in the year 1999. Slowly she began to get more offers from Telugu and Tamil. She debut Malayalam in the year 1997 with the movie, Itha Oru Snehagatha.

 
As lead heroine, her first Tamil movie was Dheena where she was paired opposite Ajith. This movie released in the year 2001 marked the successful debut of director A. R. Murugadoss too. Her pairing with Vikram in Dhill and Pithamagan made her one of the top heroines of early 2000’s. Parthen Rasithen with Prashanth was another successful movie. She won Filmfare Award for Best Tamil Actress award twice – for the movies Nanda and Pitamagan. Ullam Ketkumae also needs special mention.
