Kuyili (south Indian Actress) Biography

Kuyili is a south Indian actress who appears in films and television shows. Though she played a few noted roles on screen in the 1980s and 1990s, she earned the real recognition through the roles she played on small screen in the recent times. Though she appeared in only a few movies in Tamil, she is best known for featuring in the popular song, "Nila Athu Vaanathu Mela" in Kamal Haasan starrer National award winning film, Nayakan released in 1987. She performed this item number, dancing and balancing on a moving boat, and her tedious effort was lauded by film critics then.

 

Kuyili was born on 14 June 1961. She marked her acting debut with 1984 Tamil film, Poovilangu, where she played lead role opposite Murali. The movie was helmed by Ameerjan who regularly worked with Murali. The film went unnoticed, and she didn’t get enough film offers. Later she moved to supporting roles and dance numbers. Kalyana Agathigal by K. Balachander was her second release, where she played one among the 6 lead ladies. After playing supporting roles in Tamil flicks - Aayiram Pookkal Malarattum and December Pookal, she marked her Kannada debut with Sundara Swapnagalu and Malayalam debut with Aalorungi Arangorungi both released in 1986 where she played supporting roles.

 

1987 remained a very important year for Kuyili, as her item song in Nayagan got well noticed. After that she appeared as a dancer in a series of Malayalam and Tamil movies till 1991 before she took a break from the industry. She returned to film scene in 1999, and since then she is regular in Tamil movies, playing character roles. She joined Tamil television screen in 2002, and has appeared in more than a dozen of soaps till now.
