Kushal Chakraborty Biography

Kushal Chakraborty is a Bengali actor and director most known for his child artist role Mukul in Bengali movie, Sonar Kella in 1973 which bagged him national award for best child artist. The movie was directed by legendary film maker Satyajit Ray and at the age of 6, Kushal played the male protagonist in this National award winning movie. He is active in the Bengali film industry since 1990s in the role of an actor and film director. Hiyar majhe, Sahitter Shera Somoy, Dhyatterika, Bijoyini and Som Theke Shoni are his directorial ventures. Most recently he appeared in movies, a decade ago till mid 2000s and Mahasangram (2006) and Tin Ekke Tin (2004) are his last releases.

 

Kushal was born in Kolkata in 1966. He shot to fame after doing the lead role in Ray’s Sonar kella and this single movie changed his life forever. He also won National award for best child artist for this movie. The movie also starred Soumitra Chatterjee, Santosh Dutta and Kusal Chakravarty among others. When Ray made Jai Baba Felunath he approached Kushal. But by then Kushal was grown up. Kushal decided to take film career in 1992 and Ray passed away almost during that period. People still recognize him for his role as Mukul and help him as well.

 

He was selected by Jochon Dastidar to play the protagonist in Shei Shomoi which was his real turning point of his acting career. Though appeared in numerous movies, his talent was appreciated most on television. He made his directorial debut in 1999 with the short film - Hiyar Majhey and a few episodes for Shahiter Shera Shomoi. Dhyattarika was his real breakthrough as a director.
