Kurush Deboo Biography

Kurush Deboo is a noted character artist associated with Bollywood films. He is best known for his role as Dr. Rustom Pavri in Munnabhai M.B.B.S directed by Rajkumar Hirani. Though the role was short, he shot to fame playing the role of a doctor who helps his student Sanjay Dutt for cheating in the exams. He was also seen its sequel, Lage Raho Munna Bhai playing the role of a son who doesn’t take care of his parents, and dumps them in an old age home. Kurush has played many character roles on big screen. Yet he is acknowledged most for Munnabhai film series. 

His full name is Kurush Homi Deboo. He was born in Mumbai on 12th September, 1963. He was brought up in Navsari, Gujarati where he completed his schooling. He moved back to Mumbai for the post-graduation course in Advertising and Marketing. He completed Diploma in Advertising & Marketing from Xavier's Institute of Communications, Mumbai in 1986 and Diploma in Marketing Management from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management, University of Mumbai in 1987. He did his diploma in acting from Roshan Taneja's Actors Studio in 1988, and later appeared in several diploma projects.

He started his film journey in the late 1980s, appearing in a lead role in the Gujarati film, Percy (1989) playing the titular role. His role was critically acclaimed. In 1993 he was featured in two children’s films - Aasmaan Se Gira and Sunday. He gained recognition for the first time playing Shah Rukh Khan’s loyal friend in cult comedy - Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa. Yet he could get more meaty roles in Bollywood.

Later he was seen in brief roles in Kasoor, Jhankaar Beats, Chupke Se, Waisa Bhi Hota Hai Part II etc till the movie Munna Bhai M.B.B.S. happened in 2003. The role of Dr. Rustom Pavri gave him a big break he was waiting for, for so many years. Till now he is recognized for this doctor’s role, though he has played numerous supporting roles on screen later.
