Kundanlal Dholakia Biography 
Kundanlal Dholakia was a popular politician from the state of Gujarat who served as the 5th speaker of Gujarat Legislative Assembly during 28 June 1975 – 28 March 1977. He is of Bengal origin, and was also a lawyer by profession. He was also a historian. As a politician he was associated with Indian National Congress. A lawyer-turned-politician, he was a very active contemporary historian who lived during the period, 10 August 1920 - 8 March 2011. He has also authored many books related to the state of Gujarat and its history.
Kundanlal Dholakia was born in Kolkata on 10 August 1920. Jashwantray and Jiviben were his parents. He completed his law studies before he started his career as a lawyer. He was a member of Bombay Assembly from 1957 to 1960 and Gujarat Assembly from 1960-62. But in 1962, he lost state assembly elections from Bhuj. After split of Congress in 1969 he became associated with Indian National Congress (Organisation). He got elected to state assembly in 1975 and was elected as speaker.
He was not just a formal speaker of 1980s unlike other politicians. He was also a historian, quite active in the field. Even at the age of 89, just before his death he was busy penning down contemporary political history of the state of politics. He authored many books as well. He wrote ‘Shruti ane Smruti: Kutch’, a wonderful book on the recent history of Kutch. ‘Samayne Sathvare Gujarat’ is yet another acclaimed book related to the history of Gujarat. It narrates political history of Gujarat during the period, 1952-2009. He published his first book in 1991.When new editions of published books were re-printed, he used to concatenate the recent history of that subject as well, adding a few more pages in the end.
