Kundan Shah Biography 
Kundan Shah is a popular director of Bollywood. He is also successful as a director of Doordarshan television serials like Nukkad, a comedy serial with Saeed Akhtar Mirza as co-director and script writer. Kundan Shah is better known as a director who handles comedy very well and his movies, Jaane bhi do yaarom and Kabhi haan kabhi haan are regarded as classic comedies of Indian cinema all times. During the late 90’s, he worked on women oriented movies like Kya Kehna and Dil hai tumhara, both casting Priety Zinta in the leading role. He has also directed Karishma Kapoor and Bobby Deol in the flop movie Hum to mohabbat karega (2000), based on incarnation. Dil hai tumhara starring Priety Zinta, Rekha, Mahima Chaudary, Arjun Rampal and Jimmy Shergil was not a big hit at box office, though its songs were noticed. Actually the movie Kya Kehna was to be the debut movie of Priety Zinta. But the project got dragged and eventually got released in the year 2000. The movie starring Priety Zinta, Anupam Kher, Chandrachur Singh and Saif Ali Khan was a surprise hit at box office too. The movie handled the dedicate subject of single parenthood. This movie is still regarded as one among the best roles of Priety till now.
Kundan Shah completed his studies in Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. He took direction as his subject and from younger age itself, he attracted towards comedy movies. This prompted him to direct his first venture in full comedy taste. He wrote the script along with Satish Kaushik and casted Satish Shah and Nazaruddin Shah in the leading roles. This movie is regarded as the best comedy of the era of 1980’s. Satirical comedy used in this movie became a smash hit!
Then he concentrated on to Doordarshan serials as well. Again he chose comedy as the main subject. Yeh jo zindagi hai, Nukkad and Wagle ki duniya are his popular works on Doordarshan. Taking a short break from movies, he returned back with Kabhi ha kabhi naa. This movie is one among the first hits of Shah Rukh Khan and helped him to earn his first Filmfare too, in the form of critics best actor award. His last work as a director of Bollywood - Ek Se Badhkar Ek in 2004 was also a failure at box office.
