Kunal Vijaykar Biography

Kunal Vijaykar is a film and television actor, best known for playing character, political satire and comic roles. He is a food writer, author and also anchors shows. As a TV host, he is popular for hosting many cookery shows on television, and he shot to fame hosting the popular food show The Foodie – with Kunal Vijayakar, continuously for nine years, completing close to 500 episodes. He also writes food columns for many magazines and online portals, and has authored one cookery book - Made In India. The political satirical show The News That Wasn't and The Week That Wasn't on CNN News18 earned him accolades, where he performed the role of an actor, writer, director and political satirist.

 

Kunal Vijayakar hails from Mumbai. His schooling and graduation were completed in Mumbai. In the 1990s he started his career in entertainment industry, appearing in TV ads, and later playing supporting, comic and bit roles in Bollywood movies. He was seen in Bollywood films such as Duplicate, Paisa Vasool and Salaam Namaste before he earned the first big break in Ghajini playing a reporter’s role. Through the cookery shows he anchored for television, he turned a celebrity, and he travelled nationwide for the cookery shows, as a part of his profession.

 

In 2009, he scripted and directed one Bollywood film, Fruit and Nut, but it failed at box office. His weekly satire comedy show The Week The Wasn't, with comedian Cyrus Broacha also remained successful completing 450 episodes in 2015. Currently he hosts the cookery show, The Foodie on Times Now TV channel. His humour column "Funda Mental", in The Week magazine is also popular.
